Disruptive Technologies to Shine at Smart City Expo & World Congress!





2 November 2023 - The URBANAGE European project is excited to announce its final event, taking place at the Smart City Expo & World Congress in Barcelona from the 7th to the 9th of November. This prestigious event will be an exceptional showcase of innovative urban solutions that address the complex challenges of modern cities while leveraging disruptive technologies. URBANAGE is not just transforming cities; it's making them more age-friendly and inclusive.


URBANAGE, a collaborative initiative funded by the European Commission, has been at the forefront of developing sustainable and cutting-edge solutions for better urban planning. With a mission to create smarter, more resilient, and inclusive cities, URBANAGE has worked tirelessly over three years to find novel ways to enhance the quality of life for urban citizens, with a special focus on improving planning for the needs of aging populations.


Key highlights of the URBANAGE consortium at Smart City Expo & World Congress include:

  • Central Agora: URBANAGE coordinator Roberto Di Bernardo, from Engineering, joins a panel discussion at 14:45 on the 7th of November. Participants will gain valuable insights into urban sustainability, data-driven decision-making, and the development of resilient urban ecosystems for citizens of all ages.

  • European Commission Demo: Silvia Urra Uriarte from Tecnalia will delve into URBANAGE methodologies and results on the 8th of November at 12:30 on stand C51. Immediately after, the URBANAGE pilot team from Flanders, Helsinki and Santander will be proudly displaying their groundbreaking projects and solutions on the stand. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the team and explore innovative urban planning technologies that are designed to cater to the diverse needs of all city residents, especially the elderly.

  • Congress Roundtable: At 15:25 on the 8th Patricia Molina Costa from Tecnalia participates in a roundtable on ‘Transforming Cities Through AI’ discussing whether the implementation of AI can help overcome urban challenges and pave the way for a more inclusive and intelligent future.

  • Congress Panel: Join Susie Ruston McAleer from 21c at 11:45am on the 9th November on the Red Stage for the ‘Disrupting Digital Services: a Tipping Point for Urban Life’ panel, exploring how digital urbanism can offer more sustainable, equitable, and efficient urban environments.
